Congratulations to Chris Cornett, P.E., LEED AP, for 25 years at SSC Engineering! Chris was the very first full-time employee hired by Mike Swim in 1993 and is an original Principal of SSC. It’s not a cliché when we say without Chris’ contribution, there would be no SSC.

To celebrate this milestone, Chris’ co-workers were asked to use one word to describe him. Being engineers, they were unable to limit responses to one word, but the answers were so heartfelt, we want to share them.
  • "Chris is a man of principles”
  • “He’s solutions oriented”
  • “Fair and honest”
  • “He’s a trust worthy and honest person who cares about the people he’s around”
  • “Chris has a knack for helping people cultivate their talent”

Rich Kwiatkowski, Principal, SSC Engineering, put it best. “Twenty-Five Years ago, Chris Cornett started working right out of college in the basement of Mike Swim’s house as a mechanical engineer. We are thankful to Chris for the vision to build SSC Engineering into a multi-discipline firm with a staff of forty with licenses to practice engineering in 48 states. Coincidentally, Chris holds 30 of the licenses.”

When Chris isn’t designing HVAC system replacements, hydronic system upgrades or Commissioning, he enjoys trying to survive the controlled chaos with his family. Trying is the key as Chris and his wife have a family of 10!

Chris, thank you for having the vision, commitment and work ethic to build a place for all of us to work every day! We are proud to have contributed to each gray hair you have. Now get back to work.

Legionella and Your Water System

8/30/2018

Picture
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2016 health departments reported about 6,100 cases of Legionnaires’ disease in the US. Legionella is naturally occurring; however when it grows and spreads into human made building water systems individuals can become infected. The types of complex water systems like those found in hospitals, hotels and cruise ships are at risk of becoming sources of infection.

Common recommendations for Legionella control and prevention procedures are:
  • Remove unused piping loops, dead-legs and water storage tanks
  • Test incoming water supply at the building water service entrance
  • Periodically test water samples from the cooling tower basins
  • Replace damaged drift eliminators at the cooling tower exhaust outlets
  • Provide UV Light at Air Handling Unit coils
  • Install filtration units for cooling tower recirculation water loops
  • Clean and disinfect cooling towers

Additional assistance our professional engineers can provide includes: assessing existing conditions, validate and update piping plans, assist with long term facility infrastructure and maintenance planning and provide recommendations and cost estimates to mitigate potential for Legionella.

At Town & Country Town Square - History is in Design Details

8/27/2018

Picture
According to the Timber Framers Guild, timber framing was one of the most used building methods in the US in the early 1900’s. Reflecting this history, the Town Square development in Town & Country features the unique art of timber framing capturing the look and feel of the historical town Altheim, Missouri, which was located at this site.

The Town Square development, spearheaded by Brinkmann Constructors, will serve as a gathering place for the Town & Country community at large. It features a lake with a dock, town square, pavilion, trail and more. It will also be the site of a new eatery called The Blacksmith Grove Restaurant.

SSC’s structural engineering team is excited to have participated in the design of the restaurant using their timber framing art skills. Click here to learn more about the development.
