The Big River Ambulance District has a new 9,700 sf headquarters designed to support the district’s growing operational and administrative needs.

The state-of-the-art facility features a drive-thru apparatus bay with room for two ambulances and a duty vehicle, four bunk rooms, a dayroom and kitchen, office and administrative areas, exercise and locker rooms, laundry facilities, and an exam room. It also includes a Safe Haven Baby Box, reflecting the district’s commitment to community safety. A training room, capable of seating 25 to 30 people, will serve as a hub for both continuing education and community outreach initiatives.

​The facility accommodates two, two-person crews, providing around-the-clock emergency coverage for the district’s 125-square-mile service area. A new text-to-speech alerting system further enhances response times and operational efficiency.

Michael Vande Velde has been named Senior Associate, Jeremy Schuette has advanced to Director, and Corey Bryant has been elevated to Principal. Bryant joins Chris Cornett, Rich Kwiatkowski, and Brian Scott on the firm’s Principal team after previously serving as Senior Associate.  Read more.

SSC was delighted to have Avery Holder and Dominic Lund on board as part of the Rockwood Partners in Education program over the summer.
 
On her internship experience, Avery shared, “I gained hands-on experience in the field of electrical engineering and was able to explore what a career in it would look like, and gained technical knowledge such as using modeling and drafting software.”
 
For Dominic, “a major highlight of the internship was the opportunity to visit the construction site of the building I designed and got to see how engineers' designs transfer to the real world.”
 
It was fantastic having Avery and Dominic with us to explore engineering pathways. A big thank you to our wonderful intern mentors – Rich Kwiatkowski, Shelton Cottle, Kellen Shanner, and Larissa Martin.

The Truman Center in Festus is now open to the community. The former grocery store has been converted into an integrated healthcare facility designed to provide open access in a warm and welcoming environment. Features include an indoor play area, a wellbeing center, a café corner, and a multipurpose community room, all centered around a bright, skylit lobby.

The center offers a comprehensive range of services, including dental care, optometry, behavioral health, primary care, psychosocial rehabilitation, and treatment for substance use disorders.

Wright City’s new high school officially opened its doors to students in January! Spanning 122,000 sq ft, the core design principles focused on safety, collaboration, and growth.

The design team adopted a comprehensive approach to safety, incorporating an ICC 500-rated storm shelter, secure vestibule entry, and color-coded pathways to assist first responders during emergencies.

The vocational wing is dedicated to preparing students for their future, with STEM and Career and Technical Education (CTE) classrooms. The school also features a media center and versatile collaborative spaces, including modern library, focus rooms, and a student commons area with café.

The school is designed to grow alongside the local community. As the district's population increases, additional wings can be added to the school's structure to accommodate this growth.

​The Zitzman Elementary School gymnasium, which was built to serve as an EF-5 rated storm shelter, was put to use during the storms that swept through the area earlier this month.
 
When news of the storm reached Superintendent Carrie Schwierjohn, she opened the gym to the public. “We had little babies, older community members, and even three dogs... Even as the sirens were going off, people were still arriving," Schwierjohn said.
 
Thanks to this resource, families and neighbors had a safe place to ride out the storm, just a few miles away from where an EF-2 tornado touched down. Seeing our designs serving their purpose in protecting the community is truly special. Read more.

St. Louis Community College Florissant Valley has a new Nursing and Health Sciences Center! The 100,000 sq ft, 4-story higher education building houses a full dental clinic, anatomy and radiology labs, ambulance simulator, and indoor-outdoor gathering spaces. The new facility will support an inclusive and accessible learning environment and has been designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification. SSC provided structural engineering for the project.

The project is part of the St. Louis Community College Transformed initiative, bringing modernized training facilities to meet workforce needs in Missouri.

SSC is celebrating the growth and achievements of our newest Project Managers: Shelton Cottle, Brittany Bell, Robert Dickneite, P.E., and Joshua Insco. They have consistently demonstrated their expertise, dedication, and leadership capabilities, and we have no doubt they will continue to make a significant impact in their new roles.

SSC Engineering is pleased to announce that we have been one of the partnering team members on the design/construction of the new Washington University School of Medicine’s new Mass Spectrometry Center.  Previous to the Center’s completion, SSC was also partnered on the new MGI-GTAC Lab.  SSC Engineering worked alongside the architect and the University’s design and construction team to develop spaces that are not only innovative; but will aid in supporting the growth of the Medical Education Research Program.

SSC is pleased to announce Project Manager and Structural Engineer Corey Bryant has been named an Associate of the firm. The Associates serve as an advisory group to the Principals and work together to implement strategic initiatives. Corey has continued to expand his professional knowledge in the management and execution of projects and contracts. He had grown his professional network of clients and consistently maintains the SSC philosophy of having long-term positive working relationships. SSC is excited to welcome Robbie Zhang and Will Millsaps to the team! Robbie and Will are participating in the Project Interface program through Partners in Education and the Rockwood School District.

Project Interface is a summer internship program for students entering their Senior year of high school.  Each student participating in the program completed an interview process and training before being selected for the program. In their program, students are partnered with a business professional from a field of interest to gain real world industry experience.

“SSC had such a great experience with the Project Interface program last year, we were eager to participate again in 2020. It’s a great partnership and a rare opportunity for students to experience the real life career they may have prior to entering college and offers SSC the opportunity to give back to the community.” said Rich Kwiatkowski, Principal.

Robbie Zhang is interested in pursuing a career in Electrical Engineering and also has an interest in Mechanical Engineering. He will start his Senior year at Marquette High School in August. Robbie has maintained a 4.5 GPA while during his solid coursework including classes such as AP Calculus BC, AP Physics, AP Advanced Physics, AP Computer Science. He is involved in STEM club, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council and Varsity Tennis and also plays the violin and piano. Robbie joins SSC with work prior experience at both Tyson Research Center and Shaw Nature Reserve as a paid Research Fellow/Assistant.

Will Millsaps is interested in pursuing a career in Mechanical Engineering. In August he will starting his Senior year at Marquette High School. Will, whose GPA is a solid 4.4, has completed coursework in Project Lead the Way classes - Intro to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Drafting I, and AP Calculus BC. In addition to keeping up with his studies, Will is active in Robotics, Key Club, Academic Social Club, and the Bike Rehab Ministry.

Construction for the new Franklin County Jail is officially underway! Today the Franklin County Sheriff, Department Command, Staff and County Commissioners celebrated the start of the facility construction project with the official ground breaking of the new jail addition and renovation.

The new 2-tier prisoner housing will contain 232 long-term beds, 40 weekend/work release beds and 16 intake and medical holding cells. Renovations will create a space the multi-county narcotics task force and add a 4,845 sf addition to house a 911 dispatch and emergency operations center.
